Kohima: Director of Census Operations for Nagaland, Dr. Kenei Miachieo, met with Deputy Commissioner B. Henok Buchem and charge officers on Wednesday. The group reviewed the ongoing Census operations in Kohima. Data collected remains on track with projections. Officials now move into a phase of data scrutiny and analysis.
Dr. Miachieo praised the public for their cooperation. He urged government workers to stay committed to the task. "The quality of the Census depends on the dedication and collective efforts of every official involved," he stated. The Director also lauded Buchem for launching a dedicated helpline to field public grievances.
Separately, the Kohima District Planning and Development Board convened under Chairman Dr. Kekhrielhoulie Yhome. The board tackled urban sanitation and infrastructure. Members raised concerns regarding construction materials blocking public roads. Dr. Yhome demanded better oversight of drainage systems to prevent blockages, calling for more community involvement in town cleanliness.
The board addressed the monsoon threat as well. Dr. Yhome proposed surveys of landslide-prone areas. He requested joint inspections for highway repairs involving village councils. Additionally, the board pushed for transparency by requiring departments to compile all public welfare schemes into a consolidated document.
Kohima Municipal Council CEO Alemyapang Longchar presented on the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026. The plan mandates four-way waste segregation. It shifts the town away from open dumping toward recycling, composting, and biomethanation. Longchar identified specific requirements for bulk waste generators, including handling e-waste and expired medicines.
Deputy Commissioner Buchem dismissed media allegations regarding Census operations. He confirmed that the dedicated helpline received zero complaints. The Board also approved the Local Area Development Programme for 2026-27 across six constituencies. Finally, officials greenlit a move for Bloomingdale Pre School and established a new award to honor outstanding district employees.
