Imphal: Manipur authorities identified 24,475 undocumented Myanmar nationals entering the state. Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam shared these numbers during Monday's Assembly session. He responded to questions from Congress MLA Th Lokeshwor on September 7. The state already pushed back 14,992 individuals. Another 9,483 remain in temporary camps across Chandel, Kamjong, and Tengnoupal.
Chandel records 14,370 total cases with 9,600 departures and 4,770 residents left. Kamjong holds 1,167 people in camps at Wanglee, Kaka, and Namlee, out of 6,545 total detections. Tengnoupal reports 3,560 arrivals but only 14 removals. This leaves 3,546 in shelters. Biometric profiling started at certain sites. Security hurdles stalled the process elsewhere.
Minister Konthoujam also addressed a May 7, 2026, attack in Kamjong involving armed intruders. He denied claims of external aggression during questioning by MLA Kangujam Ranjit Singh. The raid destroyed 23 houses and wounded one tribal villager. Damages reached Rs 8.4 crore. The government is now organizing relief funds. Officials continue to look into the assault, with Konthoujam stating, "The government is in the process of arranging compensation for those affected."
