Itanagar: The Lekhapani Battalion of Assam Rifles captured two alleged Over Ground Workers linked to the NSCN (IM) during a raid in the Wara-1 area of Arunachal Pradesh. Soldiers moved on Saturday after receiving intelligence about the group's ties to SS Maj Wangjen Pantha. The operation hit the target.
Officers identified the suspects as Kekho Namet and Yumsen Mannow, both hailing from Lazu village in Tirap district. Interrogations suggest the pair acted as a backbone for the insurgent cell. They funneled local youth into rebel ranks, handled logistics, and kept communication lines open for the fighters.
The duo also allegedly planned to escort an NSCN (K-YA) cadre and an illegal weapon to a rebel camp. Security officials say the arrests offer a path into the broader support network in the area. Forces are pushing for more leads as questioning continues. Regarding the operation's broader impact, officials noted, "The apprehension is expected to provide security agencies with further leads into the alleged support network operating in the region."
