Itanagar: Security forces captured an NSCN (IM) member in Arunachal Pradesh on Sunday. A joint team of the Assam Rifles and Arunachal Pradesh Police swooped in on the New Paniduria area following a specific tip-off. They cuffed 31-year-old Wangchan Wangsu, a self-styled private for the insurgent group.
Officers searched Wangsu and found a pistol, one magazine, and five live rounds. They also grabbed Rs 5,450 in cash, a torchlight with a charger, and a collection of documents. The haul included three Aadhaar cards for different people, a Voter ID, and a handwritten list of phone numbers. Investigators labeled the recovered paperwork as incriminating.
The joint team handed over the suspect and the seized gear to local authorities for follow-up legal action on Monday, August 24. Security officials maintain that this operation is part of an ongoing crackdown to curb rebel activity. They are digging into the suspect’s local network to see if he was involved in recent crimes. An official statement noted that "the recovery could assist the ongoing investigation into the activities and network of the NSCN (IM) in the area." Police remain on high alert across the Tirap district.

Military officials confirmed the seized pistol fired .32 mm ammunition. The operation was managed under the jurisdiction of the IGAR (North).
Security forces are specifically investigating the intended use of the gear found on the suspect to see if he holds direct links to recent unlawful acts in the region.
