Itanagar: Security forces nabbed a high-ranking insurgent in Khonsa on Monday evening. They caught Tuwang Lowang, 34, a self-styled 2nd Lieutenant of the NSCN(R) also known as Jeetu Saikia. A joint team consisting of the Tirap Police, the 44 Assam Rifles, and the 36 Battalion CRPF surrounded the 2 Mile area of the town. Inspector Kapseng Techi, the officer-in-charge of Khonsa police station, led the raid.

Lowang fought back when soldiers moved in. He resisted the operation before the team managed to pin him down. Forces searched the suspect and found a 7.62 mm rifle, a magazine, and 21 live rounds. They also seized SIM cards and cash. Officials confirmed the cache, stating, "The apprehended cadre was identified as Tuwang Lowang, 34, alias Jeetu Saikia, a self-styled 2nd Lieutenant of the NSCN (R)."

Police booked Lowang under Case No. 41/2026. He faces charges linked to the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the Arms Act, and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. This arrest marks the second hit against insurgents in as many days. On Sunday, security forces caught Wangchan Wangsu, a 31-year-old self-styled private for the NSCN(IM), in the New Paniduria area of Tirap. These tactical operations signal a spike in state pressure against militant groups operating throughout eastern Arunachal Pradesh.
