Itanagar: Suspected NSCN militants grabbed two workers from a construction site in Barap village late last night. The kidnappers struck around 11 p.m. at a site under the jurisdiction of the Lazu police station. A site supervisor and a mason were sleeping in their camp when the heavily armed group forced them away. Security forces fanned out across the area to track them down. They failed to find a trace of the victims.

This latest attack follows an earlier kidnapping in the region. Suspected militants snatched 31-year-old mason Abdul Kadir from a community hall project in Khasa village on September 23. Kadir hails from the Hojai district of Assam. Security agencies are now hunting through the Tirap, Changlang, and Longding districts. Officials believe the pattern points to a clear motive. "Security agencies suspect that extortion could be the possible motive behind both abductions."
