Itanagar: Suspected militants from the United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent and NSCN-KYA ambushed an Assam Rifles camp in Arunachal Pradesh. The attack hit the Longvi base near the Nampong Police Station in the Changlang district early Friday, August 14. Shots rang out at 3:15 am.

Assam Rifles personnel returned fire immediately. The attackers scrambled into the dense brush to escape. Security forces launched a massive search operation across the surrounding jungle to track down the fleeing suspects. Officials confirmed that the military has tightened surveillance near the camp to prevent further violence.

No troops suffered injuries during the firefight. As officials continue their hunt, they noted: "No casualties have been reported so far."

The assault occurred just two days before Independence Day celebrations. Security sources suspect the militants opened fire from across the India-Myanmar border. Longvi remains a remote village located directly on that international boundary.

Intelligence reports link the timing of the strike to a boycott of Independence Day events previously announced by both ULFA-I and NSCN-K-YA. Security officials noted the exchange of fire caused significant tension throughout the border region.

Security forces have expanded their net beyond the immediate blast zone. Patrols now blanket sensitive pockets along the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border to shut down potential escape routes used by militants. Officials are keeping a close watch on the frontier, mindful of past hit-and-run tactics in the region.

This skirmish fits into a grim pattern for the Changlang district. An Assam Rifles post at Ranglom faced similar fire and explosives earlier this year. Another firefight along the Myanmar border left one trooper wounded in March. Despite the heightened activity, security agencies report that recent counter-insurgency efforts have netted results, including the surrender of four ULFA-I cadres in Longding just last week and the seizure of heavy weaponry in June.
