Kohima: Students at the School of Engineering and Technology in Kohima held an idea presentation on September 3, 2026. This event served as the regional qualifier for the Smart India Hackathon. Twelve teams pitched tech-heavy fixes for national and local problems. Each team brought six members to the table, and every group included at least one woman.
The entries spanned a wide range of fields. Ideas included AI systems to spot osteoarthritis, flash flood warnings for hilly terrain, and landslide risk monitors. Other students proposed digital portals for farmers, smart education platforms, and AI tools for train operations. The teams also focused on scheme matching for entrepreneurs and digitizing land records.
A three-man panel judged the work. Er. Shanchamo Yanthan, Er. Akangjungshi Longkumer, and Er. Sudipta Patowary graded the pitches. These judges are all assistant professors at the university. Successful teams move to the next round via the official SIH portal. Winners will head to the national Grand Finale this December.
Er. Shanchamo Yanthan managed the event as the Single Point of Contact. He thanked Pro Vice Chancellor Prof. N. Venuh and Dean Prof. Sujata Dash for backing the program. Yanthan noted the event was a success. He said, "the Hackathon provided B.Tech students with a platform to showcase creativity and innovative talent."
