Aizawl: Mizoram Governor Vijay Kumar Singh pushed for harder innovation and interdisciplinary engineering at the 18th Institution of Engineers (India) Industry Excellence Summit and Awards 2026. Held Saturday in New Delhi, the event focused on the theme of Engineering India's Global Footprint: Technology, Talent and Trust. Singh told the crowd that world competition hinges on technological leadership and resilience.
The Governor warned that the nation needs engineers to make India synonymous with quality and reliability. He pushed young professionals to break free from old academic boundaries. "India's future technological progress would depend on professionals capable of working across traditional academic and professional boundaries," Singh said.
Engineers have already built dams, steel plants, highways, metro networks, and space programs. They also handle renewable energy, telecom, indigenous defense gear, and digital infrastructure. But current pros must build the next phase of growth. The divide between disciplines is vanishing fast. Civil engineers now need GIS, sensors, AI, and climate modeling. Mechanical roles now demand robotics and advanced manufacturing. Singh expects engineers to blend innovation with trust to expand the country's footprint.
