Kohima: The North Eastern Council funneled 58.96 crore into Nagaland during May and June 2026. Money covers roads, tourism, and community builds. It aims to boost regional development. Officials stated the funding serves to improve connectivity and access to services in remote districts.
Bulk funding arrived via the North East Special Infrastructure Development Scheme. The Council pushed 48.02 crore into seven specific road projects. These include the Thizema-Chiethu Airport road, the Phomching-Longding route, and the Khonoma Village-NH-29 link. Other works include the Coco Road-Anglomi Old British Bungalow-Ghukiye Junction road, the Old Peren to New Peren connection, the Jalukie-New DO Complex Model Township road, and the Tuensang-Longleng road.
The remaining cash came from the Scheme of the North Eastern Council. This pool paid for a Skill Development Centre-cum-Garo Community Centre in Dimapur and a Rongmei Multi-Purpose Complex in Jalukie. A Tribal Artisans Resource Centre in Chumoukedima also received support. The NEC issued the first payment for a 6.26 crore Integrated Development Project in Mon district. They backed projects for trade, technical education, and coffee processing.
Phek district saw the completion of the 9.60-km Glory Peak Tourist Road. It cost 32.50 crore. Local travel will improve. The road connects 11 villages to sites like Japan Cave and Kapamodzu Forest. It serves 28,387 residents. Regarding the broader strategy, the NEC said, "The projects are intended to improve connectivity between districts and neighbouring states, enhance access to the proposed Chiethu Airport, improve access to essential services and promote economic development in remote areas."
