Shillong: An Air India Express flight headed to New Delhi diverted to Ahmedabad on Monday evening after receiving a bomb threat. The plane left Dammam, Saudi Arabia, at 10:25 a.m. IST and touched down at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport at 4:22 p.m.
A crew member found a tissue paper in the aircraft lavatory marked with the word "bomb." This discovery triggered an immediate emergency protocol. The pilot contacted air traffic control to request the diversion as a precaution.
Ground crews moved the jet to an isolated section of the tarmac. The Central Industrial Security Force and bomb disposal squads swarmed the plane. Officials evacuated all passengers and crew members to begin a top-to-bottom search of the cabin and luggage. Terminal staff started sanitation procedures while investigators combed through the craft.
Initial reports show no explosives on board. No injuries occurred during the landing. Authorities are now running a full headcount and investigating the origin of the threat to confirm its credibility.
