Ahmedabad Station Prepares to Run Trains Under Bullet Train Hub

Shillong: Indian Railways reached a major goal in Ahmedabad. Commissioner of Railway Safety E. Srinivas inspected three new broad gauge lines and their matching platforms. These tracks, numbered 16, 17, and 18, connect to platforms 10, 11, and 12. They sit directly beneath the future bullet train station. The inspection also covered a new bypass line with Y-connectivity between Asarwa railway station and Sabarmati A cabin.

Passenger services remain on hold. The site needs final safety approvals and technical checks before the public can step onto these platforms. Platform 10 stayed shut since July 2022 due to the high-speed rail construction. Once open, these platforms will host express trains, Vande Bharat Express, and local services. Ahmedabad Divisional Railway Manager Ved Prakash stated, "The completion of the new platforms and broad gauge railway lines at Ahmedabad railway station for operating Indian Railways trains beneath the bullet train station is a historic achievement in the modernisation of Indian Railways."

Construction officials like Chief Administrative Officer Pradeep Gupta joined the review of the expanding network. A new fifth line linking the station to Kankaria depot is also underway. It aims to cut down bottlenecks and smooth out train traffic. These upgrades replace older systems. Before 2017, metre gauge trains ran from platforms 11 and 12, serving lines like the Ahmedabad-Udaipur Fast Passenger and the Ahmedabad-Mehsana Express. Modern yard work now seeks to handle rising demand at this Western Railway hub.
