Shillong: Meghalaya Chief Minister and National People's Party president Conrad K. Sangma inducted three former United Democratic Party legislators into his party on October 28. The move took place at the NPP state office. Paul Lyngdoh and Renikton L. Tongkhar attended the event in person. Mookaiaw MLA Nujorki Sungoh missed the ceremony due to health issues.

NPP state president Prestone Tynsong and national vice-president Sniawbhalang Dhar joined the event alongside the new recruits and their supporters. Sangma cheered the arrivals. He stated, "Heartiest welcome to Bah Paul Lyngdoh, MLA from 18-West Shillong, Bah Renikton Tongkhar, MLA from 36-Mawkyrwat, and Bah Nujorki Sungoh, MLA from 4-Mowkaiaw, along with their supporters, to the growing NPP family."

The Chief Minister later used social media to urge the newcomers to push for state progress. Meghalaya Assembly Speaker Thomas A. Sangma officially cleared the merger on October 23. This action follows the October 16 shift where eight other UDP legislators joined the Bharatiya Janata Party. The UDP now holds only one seat in the 60-member assembly. Metbah Lyngdoh remains the party's sole MLA.

Tynsong handed membership certificates to the new recruits during the ceremony. The shifts pushed the BJP tally from two to 10 seats, while the NPP now claims 36 legislators in the 60 member house.

Speaker Thomas A. Sangma cleared the move under Paragraph 4 of the Tenth Schedule of the Constitution.
