NPP Denies Cabinet Deals for Incoming UDP Lawmakers

Shillong: Three United Democratic Party legislators are jumping ship to the National People’s Party. No Cabinet seats come with the deal. Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong confirmed the lack of preconditions on Thursday. He also serves as the NPP state president.

Talk of a Cabinet reshuffle keeps churning in Meghalaya. Tynsong denied any backroom agreements regarding ministerial roles. He shot down claims that the BJP is twisting arms to get more Cabinet slots for their allies. Eight UDP legislators joined the BJP, while three others headed to the NPP.

Tynsong dismissed the outside pressure theory. "There is no such pressure," he said regarding BJP demands for more power. He also claimed ignorance about rumors that former UDP legislator Paul Lyngdoh secured a spot in the Cabinet. The leadership maintains a clean slate as these lawmakers change allegiances.
