Guwahati: Two leopards have moved into Tingrai No. 1 village in Assam’s Tinsukia district. A male and female cat have prowled the area for a month. Villagers remain calm. No fights have broken out between the locals and the animals yet.

The predators snatched three goats from two families during their stay. Despite the hit to their livestock, the villagers show no anger. Wildlife conservationist Devajit Moran praised the community for their restraint. He noted that the village environment is now a primary zone for human-wildlife interaction.

Moran stressed the need for caution. "The important thing is to understand the real causes of human-wildlife conflict and the behaviour of wild animals," Moran told Northeast Now. He pointed to habitat loss as the root of the problem. Land clearing for farming and housing has stripped animals of their natural cover near Digboi.

The wild cats are trapped in a shrinking territory. Moran urged the public to stay alert and demanded wildlife authorities act quickly to mitigate future risks. He emphasized that humans must respect nature to ensure safety for everyone involved.
