Guwahati: The All Assam Students’ Union plans a candlelight march this Thursday in Doomdooma. The Tinsukia district unit leads the event, scheduled to start at 5 pm from the Doomdooma Town Playing Field. Protesters want justice for late singer Zubeen Garg. They are hitting the streets after the Gauhati High Court released two of the seven accused on bail.
Singer Amritprabha Mahanta walked free on October 9. Suspended police officer and cousin Sandipan Garg secured his release on October 16. Munna Prasad Gupta, Special Director General of Police for the CID, stated on October 18 that the Assam Police intends to "approach the Supreme Court to challenge the bail orders."
A special fast-track court handles the case. Charges hit all seven defendants on May 26. Four of them face murder counts. The trial grinds on. None have been convicted yet. Meanwhile, a Singapore state coroner officially ruled on March 25, 2026, that Garg died from accidental drowning with no evidence of foul play.
