Guwahati: Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi hit out at the Assam government today. He claimed Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma failed to bring justice in the death of singer Zubeen Garg. The investigation has stalled. Gogoi questioned the integrity of the Special Investigation Team, or SIT, formed by the state government.
Sarma claimed in the Assam Assembly that Garg was murdered. Yet, Gogoi argues the SIT failed to present all facts and evidence to the court. Suspects arrested in the case keep getting bail. Public trust is eroding fast. People are saddened and confused by these court rulings.
Gogoi suspects a cover-up. He stated, "There is apprehension among people that the SIT formed by Himanta Biswa Sarma was not constituted to deliver justice to Zubeen Garg, but to protect those connected with Zubeen Garg's death."
The Congress leader blasted the Chief Minister for this failure. He linked the case to existing scandals involving corruption and ties to ULFA. He concluded that this lack of accountability stands as a major mark against Sarma. It is the biggest stain on his political career.
