Guwahati: All Assam Students' Union president Utpal Sarma fired back on Friday, September 25, at expatriates linked to a controversial Singapore yacht party. Sarma aimed his frustration at Abhimanyu Talukdar, who testified in a Guwahati fast-track court this week. The deposition wrapped up on Thursday. Talukdar claimed ignorance regarding the full scale of Zubeen Garg's professional career and his recent health struggles. He also denied any role in organizing the event.
Sarma did not buy the excuses. He accused the attendees of mocking the singer while he faced personal hardship at sea. He demanded a tougher stance from the state government. "They are behaving like Vijay Gupta-lite," Sarma said. He insisted these individuals belong in jail, pointing to the earlier detentions of Shyamkanu Mahanta and Siddharth Sharma as the standard the Chief Minister failed to meet.
The union boss mocked Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for labeling these diaspora members as bright. He argued that the behavior displayed by the group proves otherwise. People claiming Assamese roots must respect Garg, he said, noting the singer's immense cultural footprint across the state. Sarma issued a blunt warning to Talukdar: keep the disrespectful talk about Garg off limits while in Assam. The court proceedings remain active as witnesses continue to testify about the timeline surrounding the death of Zubeen Garg.
