Guwahati: Tanmoy Phukan, an Assam native living in Singapore, faced officials regarding the death of singer Zubeen Garg. He testified before a fast-track court for four days and a one-member judicial commission for three days. The sessions wrapped up Thursday night, October 1. Phukan answered every question put to him. He detailed the timeline from Garg's arrival in Singapore to the moment of his death.
Phukan, who has resided in Singapore for three decades, flew back to Assam on his own dime to assist the investigation. He dismissed rumors of hidden details. "There is no mystery from our side regarding the incident," Phukan told reporters. He claimed he witnessed the event firsthand. He admired Garg and grew up listening to the singer's music.
The probe examined Garg's 2024 trip. Phukan clarified his connections to key figures. He met Siddhartha Sharma, Amritprabha, and the singer during these events. He has known Shekhar and Partha Goswami since 2016. He denied knowing Shyamkanu Mahanta or having ties to the North East Festival. He also stated he has no knowledge of who managed the yacht party organized for Garg.
Phukan deferred questions of negligence to the judicial system. He did note he received emergency medical care after the incident but claimed authorities barred him from a hospital visit at that time. He remains focused on the legal outcome. "I am hopeful that justice will be delivered," Phukan said. He expects the proceedings to clear up misconceptions surrounding the case.
