Guwahati: Parikshit Sharma walked into a fast-track court to testify about the death of singer Zubeen Garg. Sharma belongs to the Assam Association in Singapore and stood on the yacht when the singer died on September 19, 2025. He is the first member of the group present that day to face the judge.
The incident triggered massive grief across Assam. Investigators turned the event into a legal battle. Sharma now provides a direct account of the disaster. Court officials expect his testimony to clear up the circumstances surrounding the death. He was there. He saw what happened.

Beyond the courtroom, fans and family have established Zubeen Khetra, a secular memorial space in Guwahati's Rajgarh neighborhood. His wife, Garima Saikia Garg, inaugurated the site on September 1 beneath the historic Abhinaya building. Cultural activist Hemanta Sarma spearheaded the project, which aims to provide an open sanctuary for people to honor the artist regardless of their faith or background.
The family is also preparing for the singer's first death anniversary. A three-day commemorative event kicks off on September 17, which the family has designated as Zubeen Divas. The program includes prayers, cultural performances, and a Bhagawat Naam ritual to mark the anniversary of his passing.

Sharma finished his testimony over two days of hearings. He told the court that roughly 15 to 26 people were on the yacht during the tragedy. Of those present, 11 other witnesses now wait to record their own accounts for the judge. Sharma stated that he received his summons on August 25 and arrived in India on September 2. He also confirmed that these witnesses already testified before a one-member judicial commission prior to their current court appearances.
Garima Saikia Garg confirmed that the three-day program at Zubeen Kshetra begins on September 17. The first day focuses on prayers for the singer's soul, while the final day includes a Bhagawat Naam ritual. Garima urged the public to join the family in honoring the singer's legacy throughout the commemorative events.
