Guwahati: Tanmoy Phukan spent his second day on the stand at a Guwahati fast-track court. He is detailing the events surrounding the death of singer Zubeen Garg. Phukan, a member of the Singapore Assam Association, helped organize the yacht party where Garg spent his final hours. Several other non-resident Assamese who attended the gathering already provided their accounts to the court.
Phukan remained tight-lipped after the hearing. He refuses to discuss his testimony in public. He fears that speaking out will derail the case. "I think it should be inside the court only if it comes out now as it might impact the whole judicial process and may hamper in getting justice," Phukan said. He insists the legal system must finish its work.
Reports suggest Phukan booked the vessel for the event. He kept Singapore Assam Association president Talukdar in the loop regarding the party. Phukan claims he stayed by the singer until the end. He returned to Guwahati specifically to aid the investigation. "I love Zubeen da very much. I have said whatever I have to in front of the court and now I cannot tell it outside," Phukan added.
