Kohima: Er Sungtiba Amer, Assistant Chief Engineer for the Civil and Administrative Works Division, stepped down on August 31. His colleagues held a farewell program at the Commissioner’s Conference Hall in Kohima this past Monday evening. The room was packed with staff from the Commissioner’s office, Border Affairs, and the State Election Commission.
Commissioner Gregory Thejawelie called the retirement a major loss for the state. He praised Amer as a highly skilled technician who found ways to deliver projects even when money was tight. Thejawelie noted that working with Amer through years of challenges was an emotional experience. He described the retiree as a man with an "inborn gift" for solving complex problems.
Amer started his government career in July 1995. Over three decades, he served as both Executive Engineer and Assistant Chief Engineer. He worked under 15 different Commissioners during his tenure. He oversaw the construction of various Deputy Commissioner office complexes and bungalows across the state.
The engineer thanked Chief Minister Dr. Neiphiu Rio for keeping administrative infrastructure a priority. Amer earned the Governor’s Commendation Award in 2008 and the Governor’s Gold Medal in 2015. His leadership also helped the department win a HUDCO India award for Social Housing in 2015. Amer expects the department to keep building successfully after his departure.
