Kohima: The Eastern Naga Students Federation visited Mon district to survey the wreckage of recent landslides. Nine people died in the disaster. Search crews still cannot find some victims despite days of work. Federation president Nuheymong Yim led the executive team through the ruins. They met with local families and officials to document the total loss.
The federation thanked Chief Minister Dr. Neiphiu Rio for visiting the site. They also credited the Home Commissioner, the Chief Secretary, the NPSC, the Department of Technical Education, and the Eastern Nagaland Legislators Union for their quick response. The Indian Army and the Advisor for Transport earned praise for running helicopter services. These flights rescued students trapped by the storms while they were trying to reach exams.
Education took a massive hit. Buildings are now unsafe for students. Many kids lost their uniforms, books, and essential school records. The federation wants the state to replace these documents and fund the repairs. They are demanding immediate action. "The Federation urged the government and concerned departments to immediately assess damages, provide financial and logistical assistance for reconstruction, and facilitate replacement of lost academic documents."
ENSF leaders promised to stick with the people of Mon during the recovery. They hope collective effort will bring the district back to its feet.
