Kohima: Deadly landslides and flash floods have ripped through Nagaland. The disaster claimed nine lives. It left thousands of residents homeless. The Nagaland Gaonburas Federation and the Naga Students' Federation are now demanding immediate relief and long-term rehabilitation for all affected families.
Mon district faced the worst of the destruction. Tuensang district also suffered extensive damage. Massive landslides swept away houses and obliterated infrastructure. Damaged roads and broken communication networks have isolated numerous communities. The demand for food, clean water, medical aid, and shelter grows by the hour.
Both federations praised the Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority, district administrations, security forces, and medical teams. They also backed Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio for his visits to the disaster sites. The Naga Students' Federation urged the government to ensure aid reaches victims in a transparent manner. They called for the restoration of bridges, power, and water.
The organizations want more than just temporary help. They are pushing for investments in slope stabilization and scientific landslide mitigation. They want early warning systems and climate-resilient infrastructure. The groups also appealed for widespread public support. The NGBF stressed that "collective support and solidarity are essential to help victims rebuild their lives." They asked tribal hohos, churches, and charities to provide financial and humanitarian aid immediately.
