Kohima: Phelem Konyak, also known as Tabitha Na-am Konyak, earned the National Change Maker’s Award 2026. Organizers handed her the prize in Vadodara, Gujarat on October 7. The ceremony was a joint effort between Samanway Pratishthan and the India Foundation.

Konyak founded the Naam Academy and Learning Centre in 2022. It sits in Jahjon Ward, Mon district. She uses the academy to provide food, shelter, and schooling to families with little money. She works with youth in remote areas, including those near the India-Myanmar border. The institution, once named Naam Ministry, acts as a hub for marginalized families. The award committee cited her for "outstanding grassroots humanitarian service and commitment to the welfare of underprivileged communities."

Her work aims to give children a fighting chance. It provides the basics that many families lack. This recognition brings national eyes to the remote regions of Nagaland. Locals view her win as a beacon for social development across the state.
