Kohima: The Konyak Union issued an urgent plea to the Nagaland government for road restoration in Mon district. Relentless rain and landslides since July 19, 2026, wrecked local infrastructure. The damage left many villages isolated. Konyak Union President K Yamao Konyak and General Secretary Wango Konyak submitted the formal request through the Deputy Commissioner of Mon.
The group targeted the Minister of Planning and Transformation and National Highways. They warned that the district remains in crisis. "The prolonged disruption has severely affected the transportation of essential commodities, medical services, emergency response, and the daily lives of the people," the union stated.
Mon is currently cut off. Local civil society groups joined the district administration to clear the debris. They put 11 JCB excavators, one Poclain excavator, and 10 dumpers into the field. Volunteers continue to work through the storms. Frequent landslides keep destroying the progress they make. The union asked for more heavy machinery and technical workers from state agencies immediately. They want the government to treat the road repairs as a top priority to restore safety and basic services for the residents.
