Kohima: The Konyak Union has issued an urgent plea for help. Roads in Mon district are destroyed. Villages are cut off from the rest of the state. Torrential rain and landslides started hitting the region on July 19, 2026. The damage is extensive.
Konyak Union President K Yamao Konyak and General Secretary Wango Konyak sent a formal request to the Minister of Planning and Transformation. They delivered the letter through the Deputy Commissioner of Mon. Local civil society groups are doing what they can. They have deployed 11 JCB excavators, one Poclain excavator, and 10 dumpers to clear the debris. Volunteers are working round the clock.
It is not enough. Constant rain triggers fresh slides that bury progress. Supplies cannot get through. Medical help is stuck. Emergency response teams cannot reach those in need. The Union noted, "The prolonged disruption has severely affected the transportation of essential commodities, medical services, emergency response, and the daily lives of the people."
The group wants the state government to treat these road repairs as a top priority. They need more heavy machinery and skilled technical manpower on the ground immediately. The Union maintains that swift intervention is the only way to prevent further suffering for the people of Mon.
