Kohima: Nagaland Police and Konyak civil society organizations are joining forces. They plan to sign a formal Memorandum of Understanding to stop the growing drug crisis in Mon district. Director General of Police Rupin Sharma hosted the three-hour strategy session at the Police Headquarters on September 10.
Senior IPS officers Renchamo P Kikon and Sundeep M Tamgadge attended. Representatives from the Konyak Union, Konyak Nyupuh Sheko Khong, and the Konyak Students Union sat in. The group examined how the district serves as a transit route for illegal narcotics. They noted a rising number of addicts and dealers.
Konyak leaders argued this is now a severe social threat. It damages the youth. They want better intelligence, enforcement, and rehab programs. The Konyak Union is reviving its 2019 declaration on the war against drugs. They struggle with funding, but they refuse to quit. "The war against drugs must be a collective responsibility, and the Union is determined to contribute meaningfully towards making Mon district free from the growing menace of drugs," the organization stated.
The teams want to fix the District-Level Narcotics Coordination Committee. They need help from village guards, lawyers, churches, and students. Police and locals must act together. This joint effort aims to clean up Mon and surrounding areas. Everyone involved expects to finalize the specific operational rules soon.
