Kohima: Dimapur Police intercepted 19,760 bottles of suspected codeine-based cough syrup, triggering calls for a massive crackdown on the illicit trade. Nagaland Deputy Chief Minister Yanthungo Patton confirmed that an investigation is underway to trace the supply network and identify everyone involved in the illegal operation.
Patton praised the efforts of DGP Rupin Sharma and a police team led by Commissioner of Police Aotula T Imchen. He noted, "The seizure reflected the state government's resolve in its ongoing fight against drugs and its commitment to protecting young people and creating a safer environment." The Deputy Chief Minister promised the state government will back police personnel as they fight to maintain security.
Civic groups are pushing for more than just a seizure. The Joint Council Forum wants authorities to track the financing, transport, and distribution chains behind the drugs. They demand the arrest and prosecution of every person found culpable in the syndicate. The Dimapur Urban Council Chairmen's Federation also weighed in, calling for heightened surveillance in urban areas to prevent further sales.
The Dimapur Ao Youth Organisation highlighted the scale of the haul while urging the public to report drug activity to the police. These organizations stress that communities and law enforcement must work together. They demand zero tolerance for the illegal drug trade across Nagaland.

Investigators zeroed in on the stash at a warehouse in Marwari Patti on August 25. The haul contained 126 cartons of the restricted pharmaceutical.
The Anti Narcotics Task Force assisted in the operation alongside local police. Officials are now pushing for an impartial investigation to track the cash flow and the beneficiaries of the syndicate to ensure the culprits face maximum penalties.
