Kohima: Mokokchung officials briefed the media on August 4, 2026, regarding disaster response efforts following weeks of heavy rain. Deputy Commissioner Ajit Kumar Verma, Additional Deputy Commissioner Atsungba Walling, and NSDMA Nodal Officer Temsuwangshi confirmed that teams finished evaluating damage across villages and subdivisions by August 2. The District Disaster Management Authority is currently coordinating with various departments to restore infrastructure and deliver emergency relief to displaced families.

Meanwhile, the Nagaland Tribal Hohos Coordination Committee issued a stern call for the state government to accelerate its monsoon response. Landslides and flash floods have severed road links and crushed homes throughout the state. Recent landslides in Mon and Mokokchung districts resulted in multiple fatalities. The committee offered condolences to the grieving families. They stated the tragedies, "serve as a painful reminder of the urgent need for greater preparedness, timely intervention, and sustained mitigation measures to safeguard lives and property across Nagaland."

The NTHCC acknowledged current relief initiatives led by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and local authorities. However, they demanded more. The committee wants round-the-clock emergency responses, faster road clearance, and fair compensation for citizens who lost farms, livestock, homes, or businesses. They also pressured road contractors to maintain better machinery and manpower levels to handle monsoon emergencies. The group urged the government to bolster early warning systems and improve the technical oversight of public works. They believe that, "The devastating impact of natural disasters can be significantly reduced through timely planning, coordinated action, quality infrastructure, accountable execution of public works, and compassionate governance."

The committee is calling on churches, youth groups, and community leaders to support relief efforts. They want the state to show more urgency. The NTHCC remains committed to assisting those struggling with the fallout of the current disaster.
