Kohima: A federal disaster team met at Noune Resort in Chumoukedima on August 11 to assess Nagaland's ongoing monsoon emergency. The Inter-Ministerial Central Team included M Ramachandrudu, Sanjeev Kumar Suman, Pankaj Pahadia, Pradeep Kumar Meena, Rajeshwari S Mallegeowda, and Priyom Roy. They reviewed reports of widespread destruction caused by relentless rainfall.
Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority Advisor Z Nyusiethio Nyuthe opened the session by outlining the scope of the crisis. Flooding began on July 19 with a major surge on August 3. The damage severed roads and isolated entire communities for over a week. The state had to rely on aerial drops to deliver food and essential relief to stranded citizens. It was a grim tally. Eleven people died in a single district during the floods.
Nyuthe linked the damage to the state's rugged hills and erratic rainfall patterns. He noted that the disaster affected local agriculture and livelihoods across the region. The advisor credited the government response for stabilizing the situation. He told the assembly, "The field visits by the Chief Minister and Union Government representatives have boosted the morale of affected communities."
Dr. Johnny Ruangmei, Joint Chief Executive Officer of the NSDMA, delivered a briefing on the disaster status. Officials from the District Disaster Management Authorities of Mon, Mokokchung, Longleng, and Tuensang also presented detailed reports. The Water Resources Department offered their own technical assessment before the final round of interaction. The state government did not confirm specific aid amounts or final recovery recommendations following the briefing.
