Kohima: The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority has escalated monsoon relief operations as heavy rains isolate communities across the state. The Indian Air Force evacuated 148 stranded passengers between July 23 and 24, including 43 from Mon and 105 from Longleng. A state government helicopter added 41 more evacuations from Mon.
Many of those rescued were students traveling for the Nagaland Public Service Commission Combined Entrance Examination. Road blocks left them trapped. The IAF also flew food and medical supplies to isolated districts. These consignments included donations from the Konyak Students Union in Kohima and the Donate Kart Foundation.
Ground operations are moving fast. Officials dispatched two mini trucks of relief supplies from Mokokchung to Tuli. Ration kits reached families in Changtongya and Patizung Ward. The NSDMA reported, "Damage assessments, restoration of essential services, and road clearance operations are being carried out on priority."
Financial aid is flowing to damaged homes. The DDMA in Wokha provided Emergency Relief Fund cash to households after landslides destroyed their property. In Shamator, Deputy Commissioner Arikumba gave immediate relief to two families. Zunheboto Deputy Commissioner Dharam Raj handed similar aid to five families. The NSDMA continues to fund debris clearance as they monitor the state.
