Kohima: The Indian Air Force and state aviation teams airlifted 189 stranded passengers from road-isolated districts on July 23 and 24. Heavy monsoon rains destroyed local infrastructure, trapping hundreds. The IAF evacuated 148 people, including 43 from Mon and 105 from Longleng, while a state government helicopter recovered another 41 passengers from Mon. Many of those saved were students and candidates heading to the Nagaland Public Service Commission Combined Entrance Examination.
The airlifts did more than save people. Cargo flights dropped food, medicine, and clothing into cut-off zones. This gear included supplies from the Department of Food and Civil Supplies, the Konyak Students' Union, and the DonateKart Foundation. Officials confirmed that "the air operations would continue as required" to reach isolated communities.
Ground crews are also pushing hard. In Mokokchung, workers dispatched two truckloads of relief to Tuli and delivered rations to displaced families in Changtongya and Patizung Ward. Financial aid is flowing, too. The District Disaster Management Authority in Wokha paid out Emergency Relief Fund cash to residents after landslides crushed their homes and retaining walls. Similar payments reached five families in Zunheboto through Deputy Commissioner Dharam Raj and two households in Shamator through Deputy Commissioner Arikumba.
The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority is funding debris clearance across every district. They are currently prioritizing road repairs and damage assessments. Teams remain on high alert, coordinating with the SDRF and local departments as the weather worsens.
