Kohima: Nagaland Lok Sabha MP S. Supongmeren Jamir has pressed Prime Minister Narendra Modi to declare an emergency and authorize immediate relief funds for the state. Persistent monsoon rains triggered landslides and floods that decimated local communities. Mon and Mokokchung districts report the heaviest damage.
Lives are lost. Houses are gone. Livestock has been swept away. The storm wiped out road networks across almost every district, severing trade routes and halting the flow of essential goods.
Students in urban centers and remote, interior villages remain stranded as communication networks fail. Jamir noted that the Indian Army currently provides helicopter services to reach these cut-off populations. He emphasized the severity of the situation in his letter, stating, "There is no means of communication and supplies of basic daily needs."
The MP described the disaster as a full-scale humanitarian crisis. He wants the Centre to speed up rescue and rehabilitation operations while prioritizing the restoration of broken road links. Jamir insists that the state requires direct help to assist affected families and rebuild local life.
