Itanagar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi pledged federal support for Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland on July 30. The states face a mounting flood crisis. Heavy rains triggered landslides and destruction across both regions, ruining homes, roads, and critical infrastructure.
Modi met with a delegation of MPs from both states at Parliament House in New Delhi to assess the damage. He later posted an update on social media. "The Central Government will keep working with the respective state Governments to address the challenges. Praying for everyone's wellbeing and safety," he wrote on X.
Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju confirmed the prime minister already issued orders for restoration and relief. The government intends to provide full assistance to those suffering from the disaster. These storms claimed lives and left a path of ruin behind them.
The wreckage is not limited to these two states. Intense downpours in Nagaland and Assam also triggered massive flooding in Upper Assam. More than three lakh people are struggling with the rising water. Officials confirmed the death toll has climbed past 70.
