Kohima: Nagaland MP S Supongmeren Jamir sent an urgent letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on July 27. He wants the federal government to declare a state emergency and release immediate relief funds. The monsoon rains are pummeling the region. Mon and Mokokchung districts face the worst of the destruction.
The storm killed residents and flattened homes. Floodwaters swept away domestic animals. Road networks across nearly every district are now gone. People have no way to get supplies. Jamir noted that the Army is currently running helicopter services to help the public. Students in urban and rural areas remain isolated from their schools and families.
Jamir pleaded for federal intervention. "There is no means of communication and supplies of basic daily needs," Jamir wrote in his letter. He asked the Prime Minister to acknowledge the gravity of the situation and trigger emergency relief protocols to prevent further suffering.
