Monsoon rains force mass relocations and disrupt travel across Nagaland

Kohima: Continuous monsoon rains have triggered ground sinking and widespread damage across Nagaland. Tuensang officials ordered the relocation of 39 families after the ground began sinking near the District Transport Office, located close to the local post office.

Deputy Commissioner Lithrongla Tongpi Rutsa activated an emergency control room at the Circuit House on July 23. A relief camp will open soon. She urged all departments to stay alert. "Rutsa urged all departments and stakeholders to remain vigilant and respond promptly to ensure public safety."

The situation remains fluid. Heavy rain has blocked roads and damaged property, though officials report no loss of life yet. Authorities are currently assessing the availability of essential goods across the district.

In Mon, authorities are searching for a missing person at Walo Ward following a landslide. The Power Department is working to fix line faults and clear fallen trees along the 66kv Nagnimora-Tizit line. Advisor Wangpang Konyak handed over Rs 2 lakh to the Konyak Union for emergencies, while the Langsa Hill Welfare Society donated Rs 5 lakh.

Longleng faces severe isolation. Deputy Commissioner Longleng issued a notification declaring national highways between Longleng-Changtongya, Longleng-Tamlu, Longleng-Aboi, and Longleng-Tuensang completely cut off. The DC warned dealers against hoarding or price gouging under the Essential Commodities Act, 1955, and ordered daily stock reports.

Meanwhile, Zunheboto officials provided emergency funds to five families on July 22. Deputy Commissioner Dharam Raj handed the relief to victims in Amiphoto and Khuwaboto colonies.
