Kohima: Tuensang officials ordered the immediate evacuation and emergency demolition of the District Transport Office building in Post Office Ward. The structure is failing. Deputy Commissioner and District Disaster Management Authority chairman Lithrongla Tongpi Rutsa issued the directive on July 23, 2026, following a formal inspection by experts, ward officials, and the authority.
Incessant rainfall triggered severe structural destabilization and landslides, leaving the building prone to collapse. Rutsa declared the site a direct threat to public life and nearby infrastructure. The administration ordered the District Transport Office to vacate within 24 hours of the issuance. The PWD Housing Disaster Response Force will handle the teardown in consultation with the District Transport Officer.
The public must stay away. Unauthorized entry into the area is strictly prohibited during the demolition work. Consequently, the office will remain closed starting July 24, 2026, until further notice. "The office will remain closed with effect from July 24, 2026, until further notice," the District Transport Office confirmed in a notice regarding Emergency Demolition Order No. DC TSG/DDMA/2021 22/308.
Suspended services include all motor vehicle operations. Citizens cannot access driving license issuance, vehicle registration, tax collection, or permit services during this emergency shutdown.
