Kohima: Nagaland state agencies are scrambling to clear blocked roads and deliver emergency supplies after heavy monsoon rains. The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority is working alongside district officials and work crews to restore travel across the region. Landslides and mudslides have hit hard in Kohima. Workers are busy at Kenouzou Colony, DBS Road near T Khel Kharu, and Lower Chandmari Colony. Debris also buried parts of Phesama and segments of NH-29 near the Dzudza River and the old KMC dumping site.
Crews are moving fast. The National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited is handling the Phesama slide. They are also clearing NH-29 alongside the PWD National Highways. "Daily debris clearance at the Phesama landslide is being carried out by NHIDCL," the authority stated.
Elsewhere, the damage is severe. Heavy rains cut off the road between Tuensang Village and Haak. In Phek, the Public Works Department reopened the route near Tsundang Village. Longleng crews cleared the Anakhai-Shemnyuching road, but the path between Tamlu, Anakhai, and Shemnyuching stays closed. Noklak saw success as teams cleared the 14-km stretch of the Noklak-Saddle Road. They also reopened the Nokhu-Aniashu and Noklak-Langnok roads. In Peren, authorities handed out relief supplies to a household at Beilikui Ward.
The state remains on edge. Officials want locals to keep their eyes open. They advised the public to "remain vigilant during the ongoing monsoon season, avoid unnecessary travel through landslide-prone areas, and follow advisories issued by the respective district authorities."
