Arunachal Monsoon Deaths Hit Seven as Landslides Worsen

Itanagar: Landslides and flash floods hammered three more Arunachal Pradesh districts over the last 24 hours. The monsoon death toll sits at seven people today. State Emergency Operation Centre data shows 1.56 lakh residents across 28 districts face the fallout. The disaster zone covers 384 administrative circles and 678 villages.

Upper Siang took a hit at Yingkiong village. Flash floods tore through the Tarak Langdi circle in Kra Daadi, slamming the areas between Taji and Kambang. Heavy rain flooded Raga circle in Kamle, specifically Godak and Kigam villages. Infrastructure damage is massive. Officials counted 235 wrecked roads, 40 bridges, and 75 culverts. The storm snapped 823 electric poles and downed 161 power lines. Schools, water systems, and 12 hydropower projects remain offline.

Farmers lost 1,528.626 hectares of land to the water. That includes 780.716 hectares of horticulture and 747.91 hectares of crops. The India Meteorological Department warns of more trouble on Wednesday. Thunderstorms and very heavy rain will likely hit Longding, Lower Subansiri, Papum Pare, East Kameng, Lohit, Namsai, and Kamle. Authorities told residents in danger zones to stay alert. The agency stated, "the current spell of widespread rain may gradually subside across Arunachal Pradesh." Conditions should improve Thursday, with most weather warnings expiring by Saturday.
