Itanagar: A landslide slammed into the Seppa-Itanagar road on Tuesday, August 4, burying a vehicle under mud and rock near Zero Block Point. The hillside collapsed, cutting the vital link between East Kameng district and the state capital. Authorities have yet to confirm the number of passengers involved or any casualties. Teams are prepping to clear the debris and check the site for further risks before opening the road to traffic.
The India Meteorological Department issued an orange alert for Arunachal Pradesh as heavy rains continue. Papum Pare faces very heavy rain and thunderstorms, while East Kameng expects heavy downpours through Tuesday. Officials noted, "The intensity of the monsoon is expected to gradually weaken later this week." Other districts remain under a yellow watch, with conditions expected to ease by Wednesday, August 5, and improve by Thursday.
This storm adds to a grim monsoon season. Floods and landslides have killed seven people and impacted 1,55,850 residents. The disaster has hit 674 villages across 382 circles in 28 districts. The State Disaster Management Department warned people to skip travel, stay clear of riverbanks, and secure their property. Farmers must shield crops and livestock as the state struggles to recover from the deluge.
