Landslide Buries Vehicle in Arunachal as Heavy Rain Triggers Orange Alert

Itanagar: A massive landslide slammed into the Seppa-Itanagar road on Tuesday, August 4. It buried a vehicle under mud and debris at Zero Block Point near Seppa. Rescue operations and road clearing are pending. Officials have not yet confirmed the number of occupants or potential casualties from the slide.

The India Meteorological Department issued an orange alert for parts of Arunachal Pradesh. Heavy to very heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and lightning are expected over the next two days. The Papum Pare district faces the highest threat on Tuesday, while East Kameng expects heavy rain. Other districts remain under a yellow watch.

The monsoon has already devastated the region. Officials report 1,55,850 people affected across 674 villages, 382 circles, and 28 districts. Seven people are dead. The State Disaster Management Department issued a blunt warning: "Commuters have been urged to check road conditions before setting out and avoid crossing flooded roads, underpasses or fast-flowing streams."

Conditions should improve by Thursday, August 6, as the monsoon intensity fades. Until then, the state has ordered residents to stay away from riverbanks and unstable structures. Farmers must protect crops and livestock from ongoing waterlogging. Drivers should avoid all non-essential travel in landslide-prone areas until roads are declared safe.
