Itanagar: The India Meteorological Department issued a fresh alert for Arunachal Pradesh. Expect heavy rain and thunderstorms across multiple districts through the next two days. It is a dangerous situation. East Siang, Lohit, Namsai, and Longding districts face heavy rainfall of 6 cm to 11 cm between Thursday and Friday. Papum Pare district will see even worse conditions, with totals hitting 12 cm to 20 cm in the same timeframe.
Forecasters expect the Papum Pare downpours to persist into Saturday. Lower Subansiri, Lower Dibang Valley, and Lohit districts are also in the path of heavy storms on Friday and Saturday. Authorities urged residents to stay alert for flash floods and landslides. The monsoon has already left a path of destruction.
Official reports confirm seven deaths and 29 injuries. The flooding impacted 1,49,392 people across all 27 districts. It touched 343 administrative circles and 594 villages. Public infrastructure suffered immense losses: 198 roads, 38 bridges, and 30 culverts are wrecked. Schools and government buildings took a hit, with 63 offices and 24 schools damaged. Power grid failures include 156 power lines and 239 poles.
Farmers face ruin as well. The monsoon destroyed 733.66 hectares of crops and impacted 1,010 hectares of forest. Officials said, "The disaster has also affected agriculture, with 733.66 hectares of crop area—including 419 hectares of horticulture plantations and 314.66 hectares of agricultural land—reported damaged."
