Arunachal Pradesh on High Alert as Monsoon Floods Kill Seven

Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh remains on high alert following days of relentless downpours. The weather has triggered deadly flash floods and landslides. Seven people are dead. Officials confirmed 29 injuries and said 1,49,378 residents across 25 districts have suffered the consequences of the storms.

The India Meteorological Department expects more trouble today. Thunderstorms and very heavy rainfall will hit isolated spots in East Kameng. Similar conditions threaten Anjaw, Tirap, and Longding. Forecasters warned that the rain causes road closures and flooding in low-lying areas. "The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has advised residents in the affected areas to exercise caution, warning that intense rainfall could result in waterlogging in low-lying areas, trigger landslides and disrupt road connectivity."

A wider weather watch covers Tawang, West Kameng, Kurung Kumey, Upper Subansiri, Kamle, Kra Daadi, Lower Subansiri, Papum Pare, Pakke-Kessang, West Siang, Leparada, Lower Siang, Shi-Yomi, Dibang Valley, Lohit, Namsai, and Changlang. This state of emergency stretches into Friday. Conditions in Anjaw remain the primary concern. Relief is coming. Weather should improve across the state starting Saturday.
