Kohima: Nagaland is reeling from extreme weather. Constant rain triggered widespread landslides, flash floods, and broken transport links. Many families are now homeless and need help. The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) launched emergency helpdesks to coordinate aid between government and private groups.

District authorities in Longleng, Chümoukedima, and Zunheboto issued urgent safety advisories. They warned of waterlogging, falling trees, and unstable slopes. Residents must avoid riverbanks, overflowing drains, and non-essential travel during downpours.
Chümoukedima officials specifically blocked recreational use of the Chathe and Dhansiri rivers. They banned unauthorized excavation near riverbanks to prevent further infrastructure decay. DC Polan John noted that teams are on standby, stating, "He appealed to the public to extend full cooperation to the authorities and strictly adhere to all safety advisories."
Drivers on NH-29 face extreme danger. Authorities warned against travel on the Tsiedukhru section between Chathe Bridge, Unity Gate, and Khuokhri Bridge. Landslide risks remain high at Pherima, Tsiepama, and Piphema.
In Zunheboto, DC Dharam Raj distributed emergency relief funds on July 22 to five families from Amiphoto and Khuwaboto colonies. Residents there should watch for tilting poles or ground cracks as signs of impending landslides. Those in distress can also call the toll-free number 1070 or the Emergency Response Support System at 112.
