Kohima: Chief Minister Dr. Neiphiu Rio announced 4 lakh rupees for the next of kin of each person killed in the Mon landslide. Injured survivors will receive 74,000 rupees each. The slide hit Mon at 6:30 am on July 19, leaving at least 8 people dead.
Incessant rain has battered the state. Landslides and flash floods damaged homes and public infrastructure from Shamator to Tuli in the Mokokchung district. Officials confirm that four people are feared missing following floods in Naganimora. Rescue efforts are ongoing. The government said, "The situation arising from the ongoing extreme weather conditions across several parts of Nagaland is being closely monitored."
Emergency teams including the Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority, police, and State Disaster Response Force are clearing roads and evacuating families. Three stretches of road in Shamator remain blocked, stranding travelers. The state government is providing food, shelter, and essential goods to displaced residents.
Authorities have ordered all departments to stay on high alert. Residents should avoid riverbanks and slopes. Keep away from landslide-prone areas. Meanwhile, repair crews have patched the pothole at PHQ Junction in Kohima following recent public reports.
