Kohima: A massive fire ripped through Kuda B Khel in Dimapur on Wednesday afternoon. It left 100 families without homes. The Nagaland Fire and Emergency Services received the distress call at 2:20 pm after the blaze started around 2:00 pm. The neighborhood houses many auto-rickshaw drivers and daily wage workers.
Bamboo structures turned to ash. The fire leveled the entire area. Firefighters suspects a short circuit started the inferno, though officials have not confirmed the official cause yet. Most residents were gone when the fire hit. Seven fire tenders fought the flames. Six came from the Central Fire Station and one from West Dimapur.
Crews worked for ninety minutes to kill the fire. Roadblocks hampered their efforts. People stopped their cars near the Dhansiri Bridge to watch the destruction. This blocked the path for emergency vehicles. Fire personnel stated, "Short circuits were among the common causes of fire incidents in Dimapur." No injuries occurred during the incident.
