Kohima: Persistent rainfall hammered Wokha district on July 30, triggering multiple mudslides that paralyzed the Wokha-Merapani road. A slide between Chudi and Longtsung villages in the Sanis Subdivision shut down traffic and snapped two electric poles. Road crews are on the scene. The Additional Deputy Commissioner of Sanis is supervising the cleanup to restore access.
A separate slide dumped massive boulders and debris at the Sanis 0 Point early Thursday. Stranded commuters had to move rocks by hand just to squeeze two-wheelers through the gap. Larger vehicles remain trapped. Local officials warn that soil erosion makes this lifeline route a constant danger during the monsoon.
This route connects Wokha headquarters to the Sanis and Bhandari subdivisions. Any long closure cuts off villages from essential supplies and emergency services. Authorities advise drivers to stay sharp when moving through the area. As the LMRPO noted, "restoration works are currently underway under the supervision of the Additional Deputy Commissioner, Sanis, to restore normal connectivity at the earliest."
