Kohima: Heavy rains are tearing through Nagaland. Officials are racing to clear roads, secure supplies, and move families to safety. In Mon, the District Administration met on July 22 to address severe road blockages and the ongoing search for a missing person at Walo Ward. The Power Department is clearing trees and repairing the 66kv Nagnimora-Tizit line to restore electricity.
Advisor Wangpang Konyak handed over Rs 2 lakh to the Konyak Union for emergency use. The Langsa Hill Welfare Society added a Rs 5 lakh donation to the relief camp. Konyak commended the work of the Assam Rifles, local police, and volunteers. He said, "The District Administration, Assam Rifles, civil society, DEF, and volunteers for their tireless efforts."
Tuensang is also reeling. DC Lithrongla Tongpi Rutsa activated an emergency control room at the Circuit House after heavy rains destabilized the District Transport Office at Post Office Ward. The building is slated for emergency demolition. Thirty-nine families have been relocated. The DC ordered the DTO to vacate the premises within 24 hours of the July 24 notice, citing a high risk of collapse.
In Longleng, the DC blocked all major transit routes including the Longleng-Changtongya, Longleng-Tamlu, Longleng-Aboi, and Longleng-Tuensang roads. Officials now mandate daily stock reports from distributors. They want to stop hoarding. Anyone caught overpricing goods faces charges under the Essential Commodities Act of 1955.
Zunheboto is dealing with the aftermath of recent slides. On July 22, DC Dharam Raj handed out emergency relief funds to five families. The beneficiaries were Livino Yeptho, Tsughato Sumi, Hevukhu, Ato, and Bokato. All these individuals live in the Amiphoto and Khuwaboto colonies.
