Kohima: Dimapur is gearing up for its first ever Urban Challenge. The Dimapur Urban Inter-Colony Open Games and Sports Meet 2026 kicks off November 20 and 21 at DDSC Stadium. The Dimapur Urban Council Chairmen Federation announced the event Friday at Hotel Grand Vista. It pulls together 97 colonies from 23 city wards.
Competitors will face off in six traditional events: tug of war, bamboo stilt racing, nail hitting, spear target hitting, wood cutting with handsaw, and rooster fight. Men and women can both join the tug of war. Nail hitting is reserved for women. The other four events are open only to men. The organizers removed all age restrictions for participants.
The federation aims to turn the event into a mini Hornbill Festival for the city. Organizers stated the initiative goes beyond sporting competition: it seeks to "foster unity, strengthen community bonds and showcase Dimapur's character as a vibrant, cosmopolitan city where diversity brings people together."
Nagaland Chief Minister Dr. Neiphiu Rio will attend the opening as the special guest. Advisors H. Tovihoto Ayemi and Moatoshi Longkumer will host the proceedings. A 15-member core committee, led by entrepreneur Asalie Peseyie, will manage the event. Officials will release specific start times and competition guidelines to the colonies in the coming weeks.
